When we started, we used a large public cloud like everyone else. It worked, but every second customer asked the same question: where exactly are our files?
In 2024 we moved to our own servers in a colocation facility near Zürich. Storage, backups and the application all run there. The move made our costs predictable and let us answer the location question with a single sentence.
Running our own hardware means we carry spare disks and have an on-call rotation. For a team of six that's manageable, and it keeps us close to the systems our customers depend on.
