A look at the chunked upload protocol behind our 250 GB transfers and why a dropped Wi-Fi connection no longer means starting over.
Large video projects regularly exceed 100 GB. Uploading that over a hotel connection used to be a gamble. Since this summer, every upload in 24connect is split into 16 MB chunks that are acknowledged individually.
If the connection drops, the browser asks the server which chunks it already has and continues from there. The same happens if you close the laptop lid and open it an hour later — the transfer simply picks up where it stopped.
The protocol is also available to SFTP and API users, so render farms can push files without custom retry logic.
